This state historical site was built by Colonel George W. Fulton between the years of 1874-1877. The residence, which was nicknames "Oakhurst", was built with the most advanced conveniences of its time. During the 1870's, the Fulton family made a fortune shipping cattle tallow and hides. They decided to build the Oakhurst as a symbol of their success. In 2008, this mansion was purchased by the Texas Historical Commission to preserve it for years to come.
